Teachers

Susan McLucas
We occasionally share our experiences as teachers in the Bicycle Riding School Diary.
For more than 30 years, Susan McLucas has been teaching adults and children to ride bicycles. Since then, thousands of people have enjoyed the exhilaration and liberation of this new way of life. Susan has shared her teaching method with other teachers and together they share the teaching.
When she's not teaching bike-riding, Susan ("the Bicycle Whisperer") McLucas works for women's right to their whole bodies, with Sini Sanuman (Healthy Tomorrow) in Bamako, Mali (StopExcision.net).
She also works for peace, participating since 1997 in a weekly vigil against US wars (see this Boston Herald article) and raising awareness about Guantanamo, ending economic sanctions (TV coverage) and political prisoners like Private Manning (video1, video2). She likes to care for "public fruit," such as the raspberries in front of her house. She sings and plays guitar and can say hello in 50 languages.
You can reach Susan at (617) 776-6524 or (617) 501-9125 (cell) and SusanBMcL@gmail.com.

David Goehring joined us in 2016. He bikes regularly both for pleasure and fitness, and for a number of years he commuted to work by bike too. In addition to teaching people to ride bikes, David works as a freelance editor (following an earlier career as a book publisher). Along the way, he has also done a good deal of teaching—but none of it was nearly as much fun as teaching bicycle riding.
Students find David to be both patient and fun to work with, and they appreciate his gentle touch. “The smile on a student’s face at being able to ride for the first time is one of the great joys of teaching at the bike school,” he says. David teaches beginners of all ages and, along with Pata, he also teaches road riding. He can be reached at (617) 820-4498 and DavidGoehring1@gmail.com. |

Jenny Duquette Norcott developed her lifelong love of biking while delivering newspapers by bike everyday for 7 years as a child. She continued biking into adulthood, now using her bike as her primary mode of transportation - from getting to work to grabbing fruit and vegetables at Haymarket to going to the beach. She also occasionally rides her "fast road bike" (named Shadowfax) on longer rides for exercise and seeing new places.
Jenny loves teaching people of all ages the joy of biking. She has 15+ years experience teaching and coaching and has taught hundreds of children and adults how to ride a bike. She most recently worked for Boston Bikes, managing the community bike programs that got children and low-income residents onto bikes while also learning about bike safety. In addition, Jenny coached recreational and competitive gymnastics for 10+ years and was a substitute teacher.
Jenny can be reached at (508) 641-8165 and jennynorcott@gmail.com. Want to book a lesson directly with Jenny? Visit Jenny's scheduling page.
